On 7 January 2012, the Patriot Guard stood in honor of Bob McCollum at Victory Church in Garner, NC.
Bob enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1940 and became a drill instructor before being deployed to the Pacific Theater. He fought in the Battle of Sugar Loaf Hill on Okinawa, where he was wounded while coming to the aide of a fellow Marine. He spent two years in hospitals recovering from his injuries.
Bob was an active member of the Marine Corps League and the Disabled American Veterans.
